Our Drever Conrad barks eagerly when he spots 'game' - in many instances, that means he's seen the neighbor's cat! But whenever he's on the scent of something, I humor him. Instinct tells him he just has to chase it. I live in a rural area and when Conrad and I head out for our favorite open field, I kick back and let him sniff out an adventure or two. His short little legs follow that scent and off he waddles to catch it.
At home, he tends to be a couch potato and he usually chooses the most comfortable spot in the entire house--my reading chair! Now maybe he just wants to bond with me, but I hate competing for that chair. I can usually win Conrad over by reading him a good story. First, I have to lure him out of my chair with his favorite treat. When I begin to read aloud to him, he just seems to follow every word as if he understands the story. Yeah, silly, I know, but he relaxes so much that I enjoy reading aloud to him.
Conrad's a good dog--faithful, obedient and fun to watch. I'm sure most of the time he doesn't intend to, but he makes me laugh so much. His tail always seems to be swooshing from side to side, which makes me think he is a happy dog most of the time. I would definitely recommend this breed.
