Jagdterrier

This is Gert, my true-blue, all business, all-in-one hunting dog, a JagTerrier by breed. And that's pronounced "Yack Terrier" which just about nobody knows. There's not much that I can't hunt with this 'Dobbie' look-a-like. I've used him for coon, squirrel, badgers and even for wild pigs.
He is relentless when he sets his mind to flushing out game; a real bulldog, he is. Sturdy, compact and built for speed. If only I could keep up! It's a good thing Gert has patience and will wait for me, keeping the prey pinned until I get there.
Now I don't have any kids, but I wouldn't question Gert's ability to adapt to them if I did. In fact, I reckon he'd make a great family dog. The only drawback I can see is that kids might want a bit more attention from him than he is willing to give. Now, maybe it has been due to his upbringing out here with me, but Gert really has a one-track mind. I do believe he lives, breathes and dreams hunting. I have even seen him chasing varmints in his sleep, with his legs running in place accompanied by the occasional growl.
So kids might be a little disappointed when they throw a stick to play fetch and Gert runs past the stick after a coon or badger instead. He knows the difference between a casual drive in the woods and one that has hunting written all over it. He really has a sense for what's up. I know by the way he gets all excited when we are going hunting and how he gets kind of down in the mouth when we are just going for a drive. Pretty smart, huh?
