Erie is about as fun a dog as I've ever owned. His intelligence shows in the way he responds to training, but most of all it's in his playful nature. And since he's a Terrier, I do believe that he could play fetch all day without ever showing any signs of resting. I usually just have to walk away when I've tired of the game, or he'll keep returning with the ball (or Frisbee or bean bag or sock), ready to chase it again. And again...

He's just so full of energy that even when we are not playing, he is doing silly things like chasing his shadow or trying to snag any fly that buzzes too close to his face. Once I watched him run head on into a brick wall because he had his head to the sidewalk trying to grab his own shadow. And then there was the time he did get that fly and nearly gagged trying to get him unstuck off his tongue.

It's really hard to stay sad and blue very long with Erie around. In the evening when my energy is all used up, he settles down next to me and we'll watch a little TV. Even then he's quite a character. Funny to watch him get up during each commercial and run and grab a bite from his food dish and return just in time to watch the next segment of the show. Reminds me of when I was a kid, jumping up at commercial breaks to run to the kitchen and grab a glass of chocolate milk and return just in time to see the ending of Rin Tin Tin or Fury.
