Lhasa Apso

Everyone loves Shayla, my Lhasa Apso. She is absolutely adorable. She is without a doubt my dog and she doesn't hide that fact. She follows me around step by step, room by room, task by task. But if you show her a little attention, she will allow you to be her friend too, as long as I'm not out of her sight. The down side is you will have to keep giving her that attention. She does seem to crave it. The only way she will let you go is if you just walk away, or if she's lost sight of me.

Of course, she knows that I'm always close by, being mostly homebound as I am. Shayla is my one bright spot on otherwise cloudy days. Even when I'm really feeling down and would rather just hide away, she gets me going in the morning, and the day turns out much better than it would have if lI was still on my own. She just refuses to let me drown in self-pity or depression, and for that I will always be grateful.

Like most Lhasas, Shayla has an unlimited amount of energy, wrapped up in a small fluffy fur ball. Inquisitive, playful and always ready to go, she especially loves to ride in my scooter when I can get out on it. We head slowly to the market on good days, or just to the end of the block when I'm not up to more. She loves it either way.

If you ever want to get her attention you might try calling her or you could offer her a treat and see if she responds, but the surest way of all is to take out your camera. She'll square up to the lens and wait until she hears that shutter click, then she runs around the room and comes back for another shot. I don't know how she knows, but she knows where to look and how long she must pose. And you can see, she's very photogenic. If you've got a chronic health problem, I think you should really consider a Lhasa Apso for company. Just having Shayla here to make me laugh and keep me company has made a huge difference in how I feel about life.
