Miniature Dachshund

This is Splitter, a name that suits my little mini doxie because of his split colored face. It's not only his looks that make him different; he's got an attitude that could put a larger dog to shame. He's not actively aggressive; it's more of a macho tough-guy thing. Sure, he looks mellow here, but he'll go nose-to-nose with any breed, any size of dog, any time, any where if that other dog tries to bully him around. In a real set-to, he doesn't always come out on top ( after all, most times, he can't reach anything but the other dog's feet!) but I like to say he always comes out the weiner nonetheless!

I think Splitter lives to strut his macho image to the whole world, not just to other dogs. I've tried telling him that one day he's going to meet his match, but that's the one time he won't listen to me. Otherwise, he's a really quick study and training him has been a snap. He's resilient and tough, whether asserting himself with the squirrels in the park or with the mailman; I guess I've come to expect those are qualities from him. Although he's a little dog, I know he can take care of himself pretty well.

Tough guy image aside, he's a lovable companion. When it's just the two of us, he'll sit in my lap for hours, getting up to occasionally kiss on my cheek, just to make sure I know I'm loved. He's content as can be with our simple, uncomplicated life, and our small home suits him just fine. When the grandkids come over and things start to get a bit chaotic, Splitter 'splits' the scene and finds a quiet hiding place (usually under my bed and sometimes even in the closet!). Off the record, those children wear me out too!
