There are times that I just feel like being a recluse and retreat to my mountain hideaway. I feel that way more and more often. With me is Karjac, loyal and faithful. Together we hike back to the old cabin I bought several years ago. It was pretty dilapidated and and rough at first, but little by little we've repaired, replaced, remodeled and made it very useable. The hardest thing was getting water to it from the creek that runs about 25 yards away. Once we channeled and diverted off of it, everything else was a piece of cake.

I use the term 'we' as Karjac often lends his strength and size to help with the chores. I've put together a back-pack, of sorts, for Karjac and he helps carry wood, water and other materials. He's a hard worker for sure, but I can tell that he truly enjoys it.

Deep in the forest the sounds can be quite eerie at times. Wildlife calls and the trees creaking in the wind at some times of year, the weight of winter snow and the silence it brings can be unsettling at other times, especially at night. As much as I love the isolation, I think without my giant friend at my side I might get a little spooked. Somehow, Karjac senses my uneasiness and will always move a bit closer during those times. Then reassured, I fully enjoy our hideaway, secure thanks to my dog's attention. That's my Karjac.
